Devils trade Vitek Vanecek to Sharks for Kaapo Kahkonen

The Devils’ busy deadline day continued with a trade of goaltender Vitek Vanecek and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for fellow goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen.

Kahkonen, 27, has a 6-20-3 record with an .895 save percentage and 3.81 goals-against average. He is in the final season of a two-year deal and will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

It marked the second trade of the day involving a goalie for the Devils, which had already acquired Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens.

Vanecek, 28, has a 17-9-3 record with a 3.18 GAA and .890 save percentage in 32 outings this season. He has not played since Feb. 10 due to an injury but could potentially be the Sharks’ starting goaltender when healthy.
