New Jersey Devils defenseman Will Butcher will miss the rest of the season as he recuperates from thumb surgery, the team announced Thursday.
He suffered ruptured ligaments in his right thumb in the first period of a 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 18 and underwent surgery last week.
Butcher's recovery is expected to take three to four months.
The 25-year-old played in 56 games this season for the Devils, scoring four goals and adding 17 assists. In 215 games over three seasons, Butcher has 95 points (13 goals, 82 assists).
The Devils host the Blues Friday night.
