Devils agree to deal with 2020 No. 18 overall pick Dawson Mercer

The Devils announced Thursday that they've agreed to a three-year, entry level deal with Dawson Mercer, the No. 18 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and the team's second of three first round selections they made in October.

The 19-year-old center will represent Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championship and is one of six players returning from the team that won gold in the 2020 tournament.

He split 2019-20 between Drummondville and Chicoutimi inn the QMJHL, finishing the season with 60 points (24 goals-36 assists) in 42 games, which ranked 12th in the league in points-per-game (1.43). 

For his efforts, Mercer was nominated for the Michael Bossy Trophy, which is awarded annually to a player in the QMJHL judged to be the best professional prospect. 

In 176 QMJHL games over three-plus seasons, Mercer has 69 goals and 88 assists for 157 points, averaging .89 points per game.
