The Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins postponed Sunday's game, originally scheduled for 1:10 p.m., because of rain the forecast at Comerica Park in Detroit. Rainfall began in the morning and is expected to continue throughout the early afternoon.

The Mother's Day game (and three-game series finale) has been rescheduled for July 16 at 2:10 p.m. as part of a split doubleheader, with the nightcap at 7:10 p.m. The newly scheduled doubleheader occurs on the first day back after the All-Star break.

The Tigers and Twins split the first two games in the series, with the Tigers picking up a 7-3 victory Saturday behind a five-run seventh inning. They've won two of their past four games but have a 10-24 record, for a .294 winning percentage.

Left-hander Matthew Boyd was supposed to start Sunday, so his start will be pushed back to Tuesday — after the team's day off Monday. He is returning from left knee tendinitis, which forced him to miss one start.

The Tigers welcome the Kansas City Royals to Comerica Park for a three-game series from Tuesday through Thursday. After Boyd pitches Tuesday, right-handers Casey Mize (Wednesday) and Spencer Turnbull (Thursday) are next up in the starting rotation.

Then, the Chicago Cubs arrive for a three-game series from Friday through Sunday before the Tigers hit the road to play the Seattle Mariners (May 17-19) and Royals (May 21-23). Before the Mother's Day contest was postponed, lefty Tarik Skubal was slated to follow Turnbull in the rotation.

Therefore, it seems likely Skubal will now start the series opener with the Cubs.
