Detroit Tigers' odds to win 2021 World Series aren't worst in MLB

The Detroit Tigers have 80-1 odds to win the 2021 World Series, tying them for seventh-worst in MLB, according to BetOnline.

Yet the Tigers, finishing last in the American League Central in four of six seasons, aren't at the bottom of the league. In 2020, the Tigers finished 23-35 in the shortened campaign, which was trimmed to 60 games because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays for the first time since 1988. They're the favorites to repeat at 9-2, followed by New York Yankees (13-2), San Diego Padres (8-1) and Rays (10-1).

Knotted at 80-1 with the San Francisco Giants, Detroit is ahead of the Baltimore Orioles (100-1), Colorado Rockies (125-1), Texas Rangers (125-1), Kansas City Royals (150-1), Seattle Mariners (200-1) and Pittsburgh Pirates (300-1).

Within the AL Central, the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox lead the way with 14-1 and 16-1 odds, respectively. Not far behind are the Cleveland Indians at 20-1 odds, and then the Tigers at 80-1 and Royals at 150-1.

The Tigers haven't made the playoffs since 2014, losing in the ALDS to the Baltimore Orioles in ex-manager Brad Ausmus' first season. The ballclub strung together four consecutive postseason appearances — three of which came under former manager Jim Leyland — from 2011-14.

The last World Series appearance by the Tigers came in 2012, but they lost in a sweep to the Giants. In 2006, they lost in the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in five games.
