BOX SCORE

BEHIND THE SCENES: Akil Baddoo is drawing Hall of Fame praise from Willie Horton

MAKING THE LEAP: Akil Baddoo can follow his Orioles friend to All-Star berth

Game notes: The finale of a four-game set, the Tigers shoot for a series splitand a solid start to August after yet another winning month. Alexander is making his sixth start of the season and the swingman has yet to throw more than 59 pitches in an outing. He was roughed up Tuesday for five runs in four innings against the Minnesota Twins. The Orioles counter with Watkins, a rookie making just the fifth start of his career. He was also hit hard Tuesday, giving up nine hits and four runs in four innings vs. the Miami Marlins. But prior to that, he'd pitched 15⅓ innings as a starter giving up just three earned runs and striking out 13. Watkins will have to contend with a Tigers offense that has been much better the past three months, but especially in July. Detroit's offense led all of baseball in runs over the first 30 days of July and ranks top-10 in the league in average, OPS, home runs and hits over that span.
