The Tigers will be looking for a rebound opportunity Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers after stranding baserunners all day and failing to capitalize on opportunities, both early and late.
Outfielder Matt Vierling was a late scratch for the Memorial Day game and he was replaced in the lineup by infielder Zack Short, with Zach McKinstry moving to right field. It's not entirely clear what kind of timeline Vierling is on, but it doesn't seem like a stint on the IL will be necessary.
As the Tigers try and get their first win of the series against the best team in the AL West this year, they'll have Alex Faedo on the mound, who has been dealing lately. Faedo had 10 strikeouts in his last outing on May 25 against the Chicago White Sox, a game the Tigers won 7-2. It was the first win of the season for Faedo and the second win of his career. Faedo has pitched at least 4⅔ in every outing, including six-inning performances in the last two games.
Meanwhile, the Tigers will be taking on Martín Pérez, a 32-year-old left-hander who has just one loss so far this season. The last two outings for Pérez have been nearly identical, going seven innings and allowing just two runs. The Tigers will be hoping they can break up that run.
