With the 2020-21 NBA season set to tip off on Dec. 22, the Detroit Pistons had until Monday to finalize their roster. They had 16 players under contract following their preseason finale against the Wizards, and NBA teams are only allowed to carry 15.

To meet the roster limit, the Pistons waived Dzanan Musa on Sunday, a league source confirmed to the Free Press. The Pistons acquired Musa in November in a trade that sent Bruce Brown to the Brooklyn Nets.

Musa, a 6-foot-9 forward, was drafted 29th overall by the Nets in 2018. He appeared in 40 games last year, averaging 4.8 points while shooting 37.2% overall and 24.4% from the 3-point line. He had more success in the G League last season, averaging 19.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 12 games with the Long Island Nets. He made 41.2% of his 3s (21-for-51) and shot 51.7% overall.

He appeared in only one preseason game for Detroit, playing the entire fourth quarter in Thursday's victory against the Wizards. The rest of the roster, including two-way guard Saben Lee, appeared in at least three games.

Musa is owed roughly $2 million this season. He had a team option worth $3.6 million for the 2021-22 season.
