Game notes: The Pistons will once again be short-handed after Cade Cunningham, Killian Hayes, Isaiah Stewart, Saben Lee and Rodney McGruder tested positive for COVID-19 and entered the NBA's health and safety protocols earlier in the week. Then, forward Trey Lyles entered the protocols on Saturday night, just a few days after putting up a career-high 28 points against the Miami Heat. Still, they'll have a few more bodies on the bench after signing ex-Michigan star Derrick Walton Jr. and Cassius Stanley to 10-day deals Saturday. Saddiq Bey is the lone 2020 draft pick still active, and he's also the hottest Piston right now, with an average of 23 points, seven rebounds and 3.6 assists over his past five games.

The Spurs, meanwhile, have been relatively unaffected by the growing Omicron variant outbreak. They're led by Dejounte Murray, who's averaging 17.8 points, 8.8 assists and 8.4 rebounds a game this season. MSU fans should spot a familiar face, too, in Bryn Forbes, who's averaging 8.1 points in 14.7 minutes a game while shooting 42.6% from 3-point range.

The jaunt to San Antonio wraps up a three-game road trip for the Pistons; they'll return home for a Wednesday rematch against the New York Knicks, who rolled over them last week, 105-91.

SHAWN WINDSOR: Here's hoping we've learned the lesson on COVID-19
