Detroit Pistons convert Luka Garza to standard NBA contract with new 2-year deal
A few days before training camp opens, the Detroit Pistons have solidified their main roster by promoting one of their own players.
Luka Garza, who the Pistons selected with the 52nd overall pick in July, has had his two-way contract converted to a standard NBA contract, according to a report from The Athletic's Shams Charania. Garza is on a new two-year deal and will take the Pistons' 15th and final roster spot.

Garza, a 6-foot-10 big man, had a decorated four-year career at Iowa. He averaged 24.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 blocks as a senior and earned national college player of the year honors.
He was one of Detroit's best players during summer league and was named to the All-Summer League Second Team after averaging 15 points and 9.6 rebounds through five games, shooting 52% overall and 40% from 3. His defense remains a question mark, but he's a good all-around offensive player and will continue to work on his mobility with Detroit's coaching staff.
With Garza's promotion, the Pistons now have an open two-way spot available.
The Pistons will hold media day on Monday, and training camp opens Tuesday. They will tip off preseason at home against the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 6, and the regular season will begin at home on Oct. 20 against the Chicago Bulls.
