GIVING THANKS: 4 things Lions fans should be grateful for. No, really

BRING BACK DARING DAN: More D'Andre Swift, return to aggressive play calling can net Lions first win

Game notes: The Lions get a battered Bears team dealing with rumors of a coach on the hot seat and a five-game losing streak. Not only that, but starting quarterback Justin Fields, who helped the Bears beat the Lions in Week 4, will miss the game with a rib injury suffered Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Former Pro Bowler Andy Dalton, who won the quarterback job to begin the season but was first injured, then demoted, will start Thursday. The Bears are also without LB Khalil Mack, DE Akiem Hicks, RB Damien Williams and former Orchard Lake St. Mary's star receiver Allen Robinson.

Detroit gets starting quarterback Jared Goff back. The Lions will are without LB Trey Flowers, OL Matt Nelson and CB A.J. Parker, among others. But the Lions are a narrow underdog, illustrating the lack of confidence in the Bears and the predicted tightness of the rivalry. Before Chicago won the Oct. 3 matchup against the Lions in Chicago, 24-14 with Fields at QB. The previous five games in the series were decided by a touchdown or less.
