Detroit Lions' Desmond Trufant, Frank Ragnow, Trey Flowers, Marvin Jones sit out practice

Desmond Trufant's return to Atlanta might have to wait.

Trufant, one of the Detroit Lions' biggest free agent acquisitions of the offseason, was one of four starters who did not practice Wednesday, leaving his availability for Sunday's game his old team, the Atlanta Falcons, in doubt because of a lingering hamstring injury.

Trufant pulled his hamstring in the Lions' season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears and missed the next two weeks. He returned for a Week 4 loss to the New Orleans Saints, but aggravated the injury again and has not practiced since.

On Wednesday, Trufant spent the open portion of practice running on the side with tight end Hunter Bryant, cornerback Justin Coleman and the Lions' rehab group.

"I think that’s always obviously a great, underlining story every time those situations come up (when a player faces his old team), but I think the reality is we’ve got to just do what’s best for him and best for the team in trying to get him on the field, regardless of who we’re playing," Lions coach Matt Patricia said. "We understand those situations, but he’s working hard to get out there and do everything he can. But we’ve got to just be smart all the way through, too.”

Along with Trufant, defensive end Trey Flowers (wrist), wide receiver Marvin Jones (knee) and center Frank Ragnow (groin) did not practice Wednesday, though all were in uniform during individual drills.

Wide receiver Danny Amendola was limited with a foot injury.
