Detroit Lions get B grade for finding great value in Oregon State RB Jermar Jefferson

Free Press sports writer Carlos Monarrez grades the Detroit Lions' pick of Oregon State running back Jermar Jefferson at No. 257 overall, the 30th pick in the seventh round, in the 2021 NFL draft Saturday.

Grade: B

The reason: You can’t have enough good running backs and Jefferson could be a valuable component who provides depth at the position. He’s not much of a pass-catcher and isn’t blazing fast, but was extremely productive for the Beavers. He had 1,380 rushing yards as a true freshman was the Pac-12’s freshman of the year. Jefferson was named All-Pac-12 last year as a junior and ranked fourth in the FBS with 143 rushing yards per game. He presents great value since he was expected to be drafted as high as the third round.
