Deontay Wilder explains why he's fighting Luis Ortiz and breaks down a potential fight with Anthony Joshua
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is a burgeoning star who has a potentially huge year ahead of him. In this interview with Yahoo Sports, Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs) says he’s closing in on a fight with unbeaten ex-WBA heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz and breaks down a fight between himself and IBF-WBA champ Anthony Joshua.
Before a Wilder-Joshua fight, which would probably be the biggest heavyweight title fight since Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko went at it in Los Angeles in 2003, Wilder needs to defeat Ortiz and Joshua needs to get past WBO champion Joseph Parker in a bout that isn’t finalized but which Joshua said previously is 95 percent finished.
Wilder, 32, also talks about the possibility of surpassing Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 record and said he’s eager to fight for a long time.
