Demi Lovato debuts daring new haircut on Instagram: 'I did a thing'

Days after hosting the 2020 People’s Choice Awards and showing off a number of different ensembles and hairstyles in front of a virtual audience, Demi Lovato debuted a completely new ’do that has her 93.3 million Instagram followers in awe.

“I did a thing...,” the 28-year-old singer and actress captioned an Instagram photo on Thursday night, featuring her hands wrapped in some blond strands with a shaved head peeking out from underneath. But the true “wow” factor hit when she followed up with a series of photos fully revealing her “new new” look.

”I have no words so I’m just yelling,” one person wrote in response to Lovato’s semi-shaved head with a blond faux-hawk style. “This look is liiife!” wrote another.

The daring look is quite the contrast from the long tresses that Lovato displayed onstage at Sunday evening’s award show. As she made clear in her opening monologue, however, the changeup is far from the only one that she’s been through in 2020.

“I am so excited to be here tonight because honestly this year has been the longest three years of my life,” she began as she reflected on the events of the year. “Don’t get me wrong, it started out amazing. I performed at the Grammys and sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. But then, COVID hit, and everything shut down. So I did what everyone else did. I went into lockdown mode, and got engaged,” she said, referring to her whirlwind romance and July engagement to her now-ex Max Ehrich.

“I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of Postmates Unlimited. Also, I didn’t know this could happen, but I reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got unengaged, then went looking for aliens in the desert,” Lovato went on, poking fun at calling off the engagement. “So basically the same as everyone else.”

The latest move might actually be most in line with the makeovers that countless people have gone through during the pandemic, as a number of celebrities turned to scissors or boxed dyes to change up their looks while in quarantine. For Lovato, there’s no question that her new look is a power move.
