Decatur Morgan Tourism's Dukemineer receives governor's award
Aug. 31—Don Dukemineer, Decatur Morgan County Tourism's director of sports development, received the Governor's Tourism Award this week at the Alabama Governor's Conference on Tourism.
Dukemineer also serves as president of Sports Alabama and is past chair of the Sports Events & Tourism Association. The Alabama Tourism Department presented the award to Dukemineer for his service to the hospitality and tourism industry, specifically his leadership and impact in sports tourism throughout Alabama and the country, according to a news release.
For the last 15 years, Dukemineer has spearheaded the efforts behind Sports Alabama, the state's sports initiative, to attract events, tournaments and recreational activities to destinations throughout Alabama. He was elected president of Sports Alabama in 2008. Before joining Decatur Morgan Tourism, Dukemineer spent 12 years with the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau as a convention sales manager and two years with Foley Sports Tourism as deputy director of sports tourism.
He graduated from the University of Alabama in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in public relations.
