DB Richard Sherman listed as a player the Vikings should avoid in free agency

The Vikings need a veteran presence at cornerback and Richard Sherman could provide that.

Sherman is a free agent in March. Not only that, but he is pessimistic about a return to the 49ers in 2021, as reported by ESPN.

However, Bleacher Report thinks that the free agent defensive back is not worth it for Minnesota. Here is what the outlet said:

“It could be tempting to bring in a future Hall of Famer like San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman to help address the issues, but that wouldn’t make sense for Minnesota.

Sherman is not likely to take the league minimum on a new contract, but Minnesota is projected to be more than $14 million over the salary cap. Additionally, Sherman will likely be looking to land with a Super Bowl contender.”

Cornerback is a premium position, so even though Dantzler and Gladney showed progress in 2020, it would help for the Vikings to sign a player who could further solidify that position group.

However, I think Sherman is a risky bet considering he’s 32 and coming off a year marred by injuries. That said, he’s an immensely smart player whose body of work is up there with some of the best defensive backs of all time. It’s a hard call.
