David Ortiz's daughter posts heartfelt Instagram message: 'My dad hasn’t complained once'

As the outpouring of support for David Ortiz continues, his daughter, Alexandria, is making sure everyone knows how much her family has appreciated the positive energy.

In a heartfelt message posted to Instagram on Thursday, Alexandria Ortiz thanked those who have reached out and lifted their spirits in the days after her father was shot in the back during a reported attempted murder in the Dominican Republic.

She also touted her father’s toughness and positive attitude, noting that he’s never once complained or looked for pity as he begins his road to recovery.

The post comes just hours after Ortiz’s wife, Tiffany, praised doctors in the Dominican Republic and Boston for taking care of her husband.

Ortiz underwent emergency surgery in the Dominican Republic after he was shot in the back at a Santo Domingo night club on Sunday. He underwent a second surgery in Boston after being flown in on Monday.

A spokesperson said doctors removed his gallbladder, part of his intestines and his colon, but the Red Sox legend was already taking his first steps on Tuesday.

Memorable father-daughter moment

David Ortiz’s family played a big role in his final MLB season in 2016.

Perhaps the most memorable moment came on April 11, when a then 15-year-old Alexandria surprised her father by performing the national anthem before a game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Ortiz was brought to tears, later telling MLB.com:

"It was a surprise, a beautiful surprise. At some point, you start thinking about your kids and the way you raise your kids and everything that you've been through. I got caught into those memories, and it was beautiful."
