David Ortiz reprising studio role with Fox for MLB playoffs months after being shot

On June 9, David Ortiz was receiving emergency treatment for a gunshot wound at a Dominican Republic hospital after being shot in the back.

This weekend, the former Boston Red Sox slugger will be hamming it up on the Fox studio set for the network’s MLB playoff coverage.

Fox announced on Tuesday that Ortiz will resume his role as an analyst on its playoff pregame and postgame shows, confirming the news that Ortiz hinted at on Twitter.

Ortiz’s long ordeal after being shot

After receiving initial treatment for the wound in his native Dominican Republic, Ortiz was flown to Boston, where he underwent multiple procedures for the gunshot that traveled through his abdomen. Officials determined that the shooting was a case of mistaken identity and that Ortiz wasn’t the intended target.

He was released from Massachusetts General Hospital on July 27.

Ortiz made his first public appearance since the shooting when he threw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game on Sept. 9.

His return to the airwaves marks the latest step in his recovery to normal life.
