David Mekeel: Reading Science Center appoints its first executive director

Dec. 10—The Reading Science Center has chosen Lisa Meredith-Unrath as its first executive director.

Meredith-Unrath most recently worked as community development coordinator for The King's Academy. She has served as executive director CASA Berks County and has more than 20 years of experience as an educator in the Philadelphia and Reading school districts.

Meredith-Unrath earned a master's degree in urban leadership and administration at Lehigh University and a certificate in project management at the O'Pake Institute at Alvernia University. She hold a bachelor's in education from Alvernia.

"We are very fortunate to have someone with Lisa's capabilities and enthusiasm to take on this leadership role and fuel the future growth of the Reading Science Center," Jim Cinelli, Reading Science Center founder and board president, said.

The Reading Science Center opened at 645 Penn St. in October 2020. It features more than 30 STEM-themed exhibits and is open to the public every Saturday.

The center also operates afterschool and summer programs for kids.

Meredith-Unrath will direct policymaking, staffing and operations for the hands-on center for STEM education. She will work closely with the Reading Science Center's board of directors to implement a progressive program for the center's educational activities, exhibitions and fundraising, as well as undertake community outreach efforts, according to a press release.
