When LSU recently announced that it would be giving away chunks of sod from Tiger Stadium due to renovations, Baton Rouge resident Catherine Glueck knew she wanted to get some. Not for her own yard, but for somewhere very special.

Her father’s grave.

Glueck told WBRZ-TV that she “fought a bunch of people off” for the chunk of Tiger Stadium sod that now rests on top of her father’s final resting place, but it was completely worth it to honor the man who passed down his LSU fandom to her.

Greg Glueck, who died in 2015, was an LSU super fan and was involved with the university for most of his life. (His grave marker even says “LSU Fan.) He attended football games as a child, and according to the Advocate, he ushered in the team as it prepped before games in the 1960s and 1970s. He was an undergrad at LSU, and spent time as the trainer for the school’s gymnastics and wrestling teams. Every year, he would buy season tickets for him and his daughters.

"Going to the games with him was like going to the games with my best friend," Glueck told WBRZ. "We never left the game early. We stayed the entire time. We never let rain or anything get us in the way of going to the game."

The sod has been planted and watered at the grave stone, and Glueck posted a sweet Facebook message along with several pictures to commemorate the special moment.

Even though her father isn’t physically with her, Glueck knows that she got him the absolute perfect gift that he would appreciate, even from beyond the grave.

“He's probably ecstatic right now. He would have loved this,” Glueck told WBRZ. “It is really special to have that on his grave. Every time I come out here now I'm going to remember that.”
