Sources: Daryl Morey, Doc Rivers met Sunday to discuss future of 76ers originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
One of the major questions as the 76ers close the deal to hire Daryl Morey as their president of basketball operations: How will Morey mesh with new head coach Doc Rivers, who himself has been a Sixers employee for just a few weeks?
Morey met with Sixers ownership over the weekend in their bid to lure him to Philadelphia just two weeks after he stepped down as general manager of the Houston Rockets. It's expected that he will soon sign a long-term deal to join the team and lead the basketball operations department.
Morey also met with Rivers on Sunday, sources tell NBC Sports Philadelphia, discussing their vision and how they would move forward together.
I'm told that Morey and Rivers, who previously worked together with the Boston Celtics, are very much aligned on the future of the organization and that there will be more changes coming with the team. What those changes could be, of course, remains to be seen.
Sources tell us that the Sixers have been interested in Morey since Bryan Colangelo resigned from the GM job in June 2018. In landing Morey now, Josh Harris and the 76ers ownership group finally have the leader of basketball operations that they have always wanted.
