Daniel Theis ruled out vs. Nuggets with sprained index finger

The home contest against the Denver Nuggets got a little more evenly matched Tuesday morning when the Boston Celtics decided to rule out big man Daniel Theis.

The German forward had sprained his right index finger in Sunday afternoon’s loss to the Washington Wizards, and had been listed as questionable for Tuesday’s tilt with the Nuggets at TD Garden as a result. He will join veteran guard Marcus Smart (calf tear) and second-year wing Romeo Langford (wrist) on the bench for the Celtics this contest as Boston faces a Denver franchise dealing with a host of their own injured players.

With Will Barton, Gary Harris, Paul Millsap, PJ Dozier and Greg Whittington all definite scratches and Monte Morris listed as questionable, Boston will still hold an advantage in terms of healthy bodies.

But it will need more than that to turn around their recent spate of bad luck after falling to .500 more than a quarter way through the 2020-21 NBA season.
