Is he returning next season? Is he gone? Has he met with John Mara? What is really going on at 1925 Giants Drive?

Dave Gettleman's retirement has officially been announced, but the status of head coach Joe Judge moving forward is up in the air on Black Monday. And even talking to the players, there's still some uncertainty surrounding Judge's status after he held his annual end-of-year meeting with the team.

"Yeah, that's what I believe," Dexter Lawrence said when asked if Judge is returning.

"He just talked about next year and how he's going to construct things and try to improve us as a team and as a coach.”

But Logan Ryan doesn't believe that was the definitive message from Judge.

“He did his standard end-of-the-year checklist squad meeting like we had last year," he said. "It wasn’t like he announced he was coming back. Everything’s just as planned.”

So who really knows at this point? SNY's Ralph Vacchiano has reported that Mara and Judge have not met yet, but they are expected to this afternoon. Originally, reports stated they met this morning before Judge addressed the team at noon.

Like Ryan said, the meeting was just business as usual without thinking Judge may or may not return.

Either way, Daniel Jones knows the Giants need to improve.

"I think our job as players just to come to work and there’s no secret we know we got to play better," he said, while not addressing Judge directly. "We know this team certainly expected to win more games and there’s a lot of work to be done. That’s our focus, that’s my focus going into the offseason.”

Jones did admit, however, that the team of course hears the speculation about their coach.

"That’s none of our jobs and our job now is to get better and improve as a team," he said.

"I’ve got a great relationship with Joe and have learned a lot from him about the game and will continue to work and continue to grow in our communication. Obviously, he’s overseeing everything. He’s not necessarily offense or defense, so we work together a lot on bigger picture things and learn a lot from him.”

And so we wait until the final verdict is official. Until then, the players will do the same -- believing Judge is their head coach going into next season until told otherwise.
