Feb. 11—NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer dance team is headed to the state tournament after third-place finishes in jazz and high kick in the Section 2A championships on Saturday.
The Blackcats finished with 14.5 ranking points in Jazz to finish behind first-place St. Cloud Cathedral, which had five, and Holdingford, which had 10.
In high kick, Holdingford won the section championship with six points. Cathedral played second with nine and NLS had 15 for third.
The state championships are Friday and Saturday at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Class A jazz qualifying takes place at 11:20 a.m. Friday with the finals set for 5:30 p.m.

Yellow Medicine East, Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd and Montevideo all headed to the state tournament after 1-2-3 finishes in jazz and high kick at Montevideo.
YME scored five ranking points in jazz and six in high kick to sweep first place in both. LQPV/D-B was second in jazz with 10 and had eight in high kick. Montevideo was third with 15 points in both jazz and high kick.
The Willmar Cardinals placed ninth of 14 teams in the high kick competition and 12th of 15 teams in the jazz competition. The top three teams in each division advanced to the state tournament.
