UFC 227 is happening Saturday, but that doesn’t mean UFC president Dana White didn’t have time to stop by the White House to chat with his old friend and current president of the United States, Donald Trump. The two met in the Oval Office on Thursday, and Dan Scavino Jr., the White House director of social media, tweeted out a picture of the two smiling for the camera.

It’s no surprise that White got some quality face time with Trump. The two have been friendly for nearly two decades, dating back to the early days of the. When MMA was still illegal in most states, Trump hosted several UFC events at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. White has been a Trump supporter ever since, even speaking on his behalf at the 2016 Republican Convention.
But it looks like White is living out someone else’s dream. UFC welterweight Colby Covington has been very vocal about his admiration for the president and his desire to meet him. He recently told BJPenn.com that he’s “very optimistic that it’s gonna happen,” and when it does happen, he intends to leave his UFC interim welterweight belt at the Oval Office for Trump. If you look at the picture that Scavino tweeted, there’s a belt right on the desk — just like Covington wanted to do, only Covington is nowhere to be found.
Covington will just have to keep on waiting and wishing and hoping to meet Trump in the Oval Office. In the meantime, UFC 227 is just days away. With White’s visit to the White House, and his well known desire for Trump to make an appearance at a UFC event, could we perhaps see Trump at UFC 227? Probably not, but you never know.
