Damar Hamlin was discharged from a Buffalo hospital to recover and rehab at home… could we see him at the stadium for the Bills playoff game versus the Dolphins on Sunday? Someone else who won’t be playing in that game is Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has not cleared health and safety protocols to resume play after suffering a concussion in Week 16. Plus, the NFL Pro Bowl Games will include a game of dodgeball that has epic potential.
- That's for three, baby, [INAUDIBLE]!
- Three, baby.
- For three, baby. For three.
- [INAUDIBLE] big dogs!
- In sign language, this means family, you heard?
- Love you, Damar.
- Love you, boy.
JARED QUAY: Nine days after his heart stopped beating on the field of the Bills versus Bengals Monday Tonight Football game, Damar Hamlin is back home.
- Hallelujah, Jesus. Hallelujah!
- [? Shaq ?] ain't wrong, because Hamlin's story feels pretty miraculous to me. The Bills released a statement about the various medical testing the defensive back underwent in a Buffalo hospital on Monday and Tuesday, and he's well enough to continue his recovery and rehab at home. Damar was productive as hell in the hospital, though.
According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben, Damar Hamlin filed for two trademarks on January 6, which is the day his breathing tube came out. The trademarks are for the now famous phrase, did we win? Which is one of the first things Damar said to the hospital staff after he woke up from sedation. And, 3 is back.
I'll tell you what. I got a feeling that 3 is going to be back at Highmark Stadium watching his Bills host the Dolphins for a playoff game on Sunday. If he's healthy enough, how dope would it be to see him in a luxury box, getting love from his teammates and the Bills Mafia crowd, 71,000 strong?
- I just got the chills.
JARED QUAY: Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be chilling on Sunday, because he is not clear to play in Miami's playoff game in Buffalo. Leaving either Teddy Bridgewater or rookie Skyler Thompson under center to try to pull off the improbable road win. Tua suffered a concussion in week 16 and has not passed subsequent safety protocols to get back out on the field.
Putting the playoffs aside for a moment, Tua has suffered multiple head traumas during this season alone, putting the future of his career and long-term health into question. And if Damar Hamlin nearly dying on the football field before our eyes has taught us anything, it's that there are more important things in life than this little child's game.
- You said it.
JARED QUAY: And there are definitely more important things than the NFL Pro Bowl, which is why the league is changing it up. Instead of subjecting players and fans to the worst All-Star game in sports, the NFL's going to put its top players through a bunch of different skills challenges as part of the Pro Bowl Games, which will include a dodgeball game.
- If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
JARED QUAY: The match-up will include AFC versus NFC and offensive versus defensive players. This should be entertaining as hell, but I think it defeats the purpose of scrapping the regular full-contact football game trying to keep guys from getting injured.
JARED QUAY: Because you know someone's going to take this playground mess too seriously and get hurt.
I mean, Pat Mahomes is going to hit the shit out of Tyreek Hill, right? And he got accuracy. I'm kind of worried that Pat Mahomes might get everybody. I mean, he might be dangerous. He got a bullet on his hand. And Tyreek Hill so fast and he can be running so fast, you can't move out of Tyreek Hill's way.
