Dallas Goedert honors former Britton-Hecla quarterback Trevor Zuehlke with NFL promotion

Former South Dakota State and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert is using an NFL promotion to honor a former high school player in his home state.

For "My Cause, My Cleats" week in the NFL, Goedert is donning white shoes with the message "Pass it on #ForTrevor." The movement was started by the family of Trevor Zuehlke, a quarterback and linebacker at Britton-Hecla who suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2019.

Zuehlke was rushed to a hospital after suffering the injury in a game against Warner on Oct. 18, 2019 and was placed in a medically-induced coma as he recovered.

Zuehlke has since become an inspiration for the Britton-Hecla community. On Oct. 16, 2020, the team started him at linebacker, lining up on the field and waiting for the play clock to run out for a final trip out onto the field for the then-senior. Goedert is the latest in a wave of sports stars who have sent messages of support, including Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The "My Cause, My Cleats" initiative began in 2016 as an agreement between the league and the players to devote a week to a cause that is important to them, according to the description on denverbroncos.com.
