Top of the Friday morning to you. Paul Skrbina here, The Tennessean's beat writer for the Nashville Predators.
The city's hockey team is not playing in the postseason for the first time since 2014, but that doesn't mean the Predators haven't been busy. No worries, though, because our team here at The Tennessean has your team covered.
On Tuesday the team fired head coach John Hynes, who spent three-plus seasons calling the shots for the Predators. Hynes' record with Nashville was 134-95-18 and he led the team to three playoff appearances. Nashville's streak of postseason qualifying ended at eight this season, though.
On Wednesday the Predators incoming general manager and the franchise's first coach, Barry Trotz, officially introduced Andrew Brunette as the team's new coach, the fourth in franchise history. Brunette's full-circle journey back to Nashville was completed when Trotz, who will take over for the retiring David Poile on July 1, hired him Tuesday. Brunette scored the first goal in franchise history in 1998.
Tennessean columnist Gentry Estes also weighed in on the way Hynes' firing was handled and how the Predators should brace themselves for big changes.
Also included in our comprehensive coverage are some subscriber-exclusive stories relating to the Predators. And not to be forgotten, I sat down for coffee recently with retired Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki. He opened up about saving lives in the streets of Nashville and beyond, and saving his own life while coping with mental health issues.
