Custom cookie decorating business, One Smart Cookie, coming to Sioux Falls
Engineer by day, cookie decorator by night, Logan Gran is bringing her custom cookie skills to Sioux Falls.
Gran owns and operates One Smart Cookie, a cookie-decorating business, out of her home as a side business while she works full time for the Department of Transportation.
Baking is something she’s always loved since growing up baking with her aunt and younger sister. The holidays were always the busiest time, and now Gran makes custom cookies for every occasion.
The 26-year-old grew up in Chamberlain, South Dakota, and just moved from Pierre to Sioux Falls with her husband and their two children, Paxton (5) and Knox (1).

The move to Sioux Falls was sparked by the desire to be closer to both Gran and her husband’s families. One of Gran’s sisters even owns Sinless Sweets bakery in town, and another owns Chelsea’s Boutique.
“It will be a good place to be,” said Gran.
Gran had her daughter, Paxton, while she was in college. She said it was a lot to juggle school and raising a baby, and after graduating and finding a job, she said she was “looking for more of an artistic outlet.”
“Baking, in general, is kind of like my therapy,” she said. “It’s very calming.”
Using her aunt’s sugar cookie recipe, Gran started making and decorating cookies and brought them to work. Not long after, she had people wanting to buy her cookies, and in 2019 Gran officially started her business.
She also sells decorated cookie cards for holidays and events. The individually wrapped cookies attach right to the card, and it makes for an easy gift or party favor, said Gran.
“I just like bringing joy to people and giving them a form of edible art. Being part of people’s special occasions means a lot to me.”

After Gran is done with her Principles and Practice of Engineering exam this fall, she wants to begin teaching cookie-decorating classes. She said she’ll likely rent a facility or use her sister’s new storefront for the lessons, which she hopes to start giving by the end of the year.
“I love getting to share my talent with others and spark a little joy in other people's lives,” said Gran. “Who knows? Maybe I can even inspire someone else to start a business of their own.”
