Cushing corrals the Ada Cougars

Mar. 23—CUSHING — The host Cushing Tigers scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open a tight game en route to a 10-2 win over Ada Thursday night.

The Cougars dropped to 2-9 on the spring, while Cushing improved to 5-3. Coach Shane Coker's club is now set to battle Blanchard in a pair of District 4A-1 contests Monday (at home) and Tuesday (at Blanchard).

Cushing 10, Ada 2

The Tigers scratched for single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings before using the seven-run volley in the fourth frame to build a 9-0 lead.

Ada got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning.

Will Johnson led that inning off with an infield hit and Kyler Gaddis followed with a base knock to left field. Hunter McDonald walked to load the bases and both Elvis Edwards and Brock Boyles drew back-to-back free passes to force in a pair of runs and get Ada within 9-2.

The game ended via the run rule when Beau Lane led off the bottom of the fifth frame with a triple and scored on a one-out, RBI hit by Wyatt Heisler.

Ada collected five hits in the game, including a double by Edwards and singles from Keith Cook and Reid Samson.

Lane led a seven-hit CHS offense, going 3-for-3 with two triples and three runs scored. Ethan Evans went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored and Gage Lovin cracked a double and drove in a run for the hosts.

Three Ada pitchers — Seth Flinn, Boyles and Edwards — combined for eight strikeouts, four walks and six hit batters.

Lovin was the winning hurler for Cushing. He struck out five, walked two and allowed two earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.
