The countdown to catch Ray Allen is officially underway.

With seven 3-pointers against the Orlando Magic on Monday night, Steph Curry needs only 15 3-pointers to match Allen’s all-time record for most made triples in NBA history. Allen sits at the top of the list with 2973 made 3-pointers, with Curry trailing at 2958.

To start the season, Curry has been red-hot from beyond the arc. With a deep jumper in only his 19th game of the season, the Golden State Warriors point guard reset his own record to become the fastest player to get to 100 made 3-pointers in a season. Curry now leads the NBA with 126 made triples on the season.

The two-time Most Valuable Player has 14 games with five or more 3-pointers, including four different contests with nine made jumpers from long distance.

To snap Allen’s record in front of his home crowd at Chase Center in San Francisco, Curry would need to drill a historic 16 3-pointers in a single game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. Following the game against Portland, Golden State heads on the road for five consecutive games.

Along with breaking Allen’s all-time record, Curry would need to surpass his teammate Klay Thompson’s mark of 14 made triples in one game.

After the Warriors cruised to a victory over the Magic on Monday, Curry didn’t rule out the potential of a record-breaking performance on Wednesday against the Trail Blazers.

During his career, Curry has recorded contests with 13 and 12 made 3-pointers to go along with multiples games of 11 and 10 triples. Last season, the Davidson product exploded for a career-best 62 points with eight made 3-pointers against the Trail Blazers.

Fireworks could be looming on Wednesday at Chase Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PT.
