KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current will open the NWSL regular season with the first match inside their brand-new, historic stadium.
The Current open their 2024 season and league play against the 2022 champion Portland Thorns on Saturday, March 16 at noon at CPKC Stadium, the first stadium in the world purpose-built for women’s professional sports. The match will be nationally broadcast as well.
This is the second-straight year these two teams will open the regular season and the third time in the last four matches between the Current and Thorns that will be on national network television.
The historic match will also serve as the grand opening for Kansas City’s CPKC Stadium.
The Current will host all other 13 NWSL teams at CPKC Stadium throughout the season, including two expansion teams the Utah Royals returning to the NWSL alongside Bay FC.
Bay FC will visit KC on April 20 while the Royals will make their first visit on Sept. 7.
Other notable games at home will include the 2023 Challenge Cup champion North Carolina Courage on May 12 and the 2023 NWSL champion NJ/NY Gotham FC coming to town on Sept. 28.
The NWSL will take a break from regular season play during the 2024 Olympic Games from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, Aug 11.
Kansas City will head into the break with a home game against the Orlando Pride on July 6 and return to regular season play on Aug. 25 at the Washington Spirit.
The last Current home match will be against the San Diego Wave on Oct. 19, and they will close out the season at the Chicago Red Stars on Nov. 3.
The Current will be featured on national platforms 19 times, more than any other team in the league except Angel City FC and Portland Thorns FC.
The NWSL will also be in the first year of its four-year media rights agreements with CBS Sports, ESPN, Prime Video and Scripps Sports (ION). The remaining matches will be available on NWSL+, the league’s first direct-to-consumer streaming platform that is available on most platforms.
The Current will have seven matches on NWSL+, seven matches on ION, four matches on Prime Video, four matches on CBS, two matches on ESPN and one match each on ABC and CBS Sports Network.
With season tickets sold out for 2024, a limited number of single-game tickets for 2024 regular season matches will go on sale to Current Club members the week of Feb. 5.
Current Club members get priority access to 2024 single-match tickets and allows fans to add their names to the wait list for future season ticket availability.
