Williams gifts dad, a diehard Cubs fan, special memento originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Trevor Williams story just keeps on getting cooler.

Williams took the mound on Saturday against the Braves with his dad, Richard, in attendance. Richard attended Trevor's first two starts this season, but on Saturday got to express support for his son in a new way.

Trevor gifted his dad a game-worn Cubs jersey, which Richard tweeted he's "wearing proudly" at Wrigley Field Saturday afternoon.

Richard is a diehard Cubs fan who was "over the moon" when his son signed with the North Siders in February. Trevor promised him a jersey recently and (after briefly forgetting) remembered, with Richard coming to Chicago to watch him pitch this weekend.

The right-hander grabbed one of his own jerseys, fulfilling his promise, but joked it didn't get much use in a game.

"Is it a game worn? Sure, I might have worn in the dugout," Trevor said, laughing. "I wore it during a game."

But whether or not he wore it during an outing is beside the point.

"He was thrilled," Trevor added. "I don't think he's had a Cubs jersey for a long time, so he was thrilled about that."
