Cubs trade Cameron Maybin to Mets originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Cubs announced Tuesday they've traded veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin to the Mets for cash considerations.

Maybin originally joined the Cubs last August in a trade deadline move with the Tigers. The respected veteran hit .250/.304/.365 in 56 plate appearances, rejoining the club on a minor-league deal in February.

Maybin began the season on the Cubs alternate site roster, joining Triple-A Iowa when the minors season got underway this month. The 34-year-old went 4-for-39 (.103) in 10 games.

Maybin was a solid depth piece for the Cubs, who only have four true outfielders on their roster. But Kris Bryant's versatility offers manager David Ross a fifth outfield option, along with Joc Pederson, Jason Heyward, Ian Happ and Jake Marisnick (who is on the injured list).

Maybin gives New York two former Cubs outfielders, along with Albert Almora Jr.
