Cubs place Stroman on IL, Steele starts Dodgers finale originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Cubs placed Marcus Stroman on the injured list with no designation before Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers, indicating it's related to COVID-19.

Stroman was Sunday's probable starter. Justin Steele will start in his place, the Cubs said.

"We juggled," Cubs manager David Ross said. "There was a lot of moving parts [Saturday], for sure."

Stroman is coming off his best start in a Cubs uniform, a week ago Sunday against the Brewers. He outdueled reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, allowing two hits and a walk in seven shutout innings.

In five starts this season, Stroman holds a 5.13 ERA.

Steele was expected to start Monday's series opener in San Diego before the Stroman move. The lefty's last start was a week ago Saturday against the Brewers, when he allowed four runs (two earned) in three innings.

Steele, who's pitched three or fewer innings in his last three starts, holds a 5.50 ERA in five starts (18 innings) this season.
