Joc Pederson is mashing offensively to start spring training originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

If early spring training is any indication for what's to come, Cubs fans are going to like seeing Joc Pederson in the middle of the lineup this season.

Pederson's hot start to camp continued Thursday against the Rockies. The 28-year-old hit two home runs against Colorado — an opposite field blast in the first inning and a solo shot to right-center in the third — going 3-for-3 on the day.

Pederson, the Cubs' biggest offseason free-agent addition, has now gone deep five times this spring. Through Thursday's game, he's hitting .529 (9-for-17).

Pederson is making a strong impression with his new club. Cubs manager David Ross talked this week about how comfortable the left fielder has looked in his transition to the team after seven seasons with the Dodgers.

“He’s fit in real easily, and he’s a pleasure to have around,” Ross said Wednesday. “When he’s playing like that, you can just tell how comfortable he is.”

Said Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks on Thursday: "I'm really glad he's on our side. I'll say that much."

"He barrels balls and the sound coming off is different," Hendricks added. "He's so fun to watch up there. I can't wait to see what he's got for us this whole year."

As one astute press box wag says: "Joctober starts in Pedermarch.”
