Cubs fans waited outside Wrigley to see off Rizzo originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago Cubs traded away the ultimate fan favorite, Anthony Rizzo. The move came less than 24 hours before the trade deadline and the Cubs got two prospects from the New York Yankees in return.

But Rizzo has been the cornerstone of the franchise since before they became contenders. He was the face of the franchise. He caught the ball to record the final out that secured the Cubs' first World Series in 108 years.

He is beloved in a way few athletes ever are.

Which makes his trade all the harder for Wrigleyville.

But with news of the trade breaking at the conclusion of the Cubs game against the Cincinnati Reds, some fans waited outside Wrigley Field to bid their hero farewell and to say thank you for his contributions to the team and the city.

And this wasn't immediately after the game either.

Rizzo and his family soaked up their final day at Wrigley Field before making their exit.

Like they say, it's just different here.
