Brandon Morrow has 16 saves this season, but the Chicago Cubs closer was unavailable for a Tuesday doubleheader because he was suffering from back spasms. Morrow, a right-hander, says he injured himself while taking off his pants after returning home from a Cubs road trip early Monday morning. "Just undressing at my house," Morrow told reporters in explaining the injury on Tuesday. "Like 3 a.m., in the closet, got my right leg off. Left one just felt like a spasm in my back." "It's frustrating any time you can't get out there, especially when you can't go because of something stupid like taking your pants off." The team is taking the injury on a day-by-day basis and Morrow says he is hopeful the fact it happened off the field will play in his favor. "I'm hoping that since it's not like a trauma-induced spasm -- like I wasn't throwing a pitch or lifting something or twisting -- that once the muscle relaxes it should be OK," he told reporters. Morrow, 33, signed with the Cubs this winter on a two-year $21 million deal. Coming into this season he had just 18 career saves. The Cubs split their doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, with both games being decided by one run. --Field Level Media
