Cubs closer Brandon Morrow says back injury is a result of taking off his pants
Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow hates pants just as much as the rest of us. Morrow, however, probably has more legitimate reasons for being angry with his clothes. The reliever says pants are to blame for his latest injury.
What happened?
After not pitching in the Cubs’ late-inning 4-3 loss during Game 1 of the team’s double-header Tuesday, it was revealed Morrow was unavailable due to an injury. Morrow later revealed he was dealing with a back issue.
How did that happen? Allow Morrow to explain.
Brandon Morrow says he felt back spasms "taking my pants off" at "like 3 a.m." on Monday morning after #Cubs flew back from Sunday night game in St. Louis.

Morrow says he felt his back spasm as he was taking off his pants following the team’s late game in St. Louis on Sunday night.
Morrow’s absence hurt the Cubs on Tuesday. The 33-year-old reliever could only watch as the team let a lead slip away in the ninth inning. Morrow has a 1.59 ERA over 22 2/3 innings in 2018.
How does that happen?
We’re unsure. As far as we know, taking off one’s pants isn’t an aggressive act. But we also have no idea how badly Morrow wanted to get his pants off.
If there’s a silver lining, no one has mentioned a stint on the disabled list just yet. That indicates Morrow might be able to return to the mound after a day or two.
All of this sounds profoundly stupid
It is. And Morrow agrees.
Brandon Morrow: "It's frustrating any time you can't get out there, and especially when you can't go because of something stupid like taking your pants off."

Not the first dumb injury
This may be one of the first times pants were to blame for a baseball injury, but it’s far from the first time a baseball player injured themselves in a dumb way. A sneeze once sidelined Sammy Sosa, suitcases took out Salvador Perez and Jonathan Lucroy and a drone sliced Trevor Bauer’s finger.
Of that bunch, though, this one might be the most embarrassing. At least Morrow has that going for him.
