The Chicago Cubs have recalled catcher Victor Caratini from Triple-A Iowa, the team announced on Wednesday.
In a corresponding move, struggling catcher Chris Gimenez was designated for assignment, leaving the team's 40-man roster at 38 players.
Caratini started the season with the Cubs, but was sent down on May 25 after a 17-for-65 start. Caratini batted .313 with four home runs and 22 RBIs in 32 games with Iowa, while also logging time at first base (12 games) and third (1).
Gimenez, 35, was batting .143 with one RBI in 12 games with the Cubs.
