Anthony Rizzo shares heartfelt message to Cubs fans originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Cubs fans missed attending games during the 2020 season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo missed them as well.

Rizzo shared a heartfelt message to fans Friday looking forward to when they could attend games at Wrigley Field again. Via the Cubs' Twitter account:

"Hey Cubs fans, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year. I missed you guys in the ballpark last year," Rizzo said. "[I'm] really, really looking forward to the next time Wrigley Field is packed and it's a hot summer day and it's Cubs vs. Cardinals.

"I hope everyone is doing well. Keep pushing, keep moving along and stay strong."

Fans weren't allowed to attend regular season games throughout baseball last season due to the pandemic. A limited number were allowed at the NLCS and World Series, hosted at the neutral site Globe Life Field — home of the Texas Rangers.

ESPN's Jesse Rogers reported this past September the Cubs are expecting reduced fan capacity to start the 2021 season, though that obviously will be contingent on the state of the pandemic and depend on health and safety ordinances.
