Travis Kelce responds after getting booed at NBA playoff game

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is responding after being booed while attending a recent NBA playoffs game.

Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, along with new wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, sat courtside at the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks May 26 game in Dallas.

On the May 29 episode of his podcast, "New Heights," Kelce revealed he'd been "booed twice" by the Texas crowd.

"It’s whatever. I get it. I’m not from Dallas. I’m just kind of like an innocent bystander," he said. "I don’t know, maybe they just don’t like the Chiefs."

His theory seemed to be disproven by the crowd, however, as Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany Mahomes, who was also in attendance, both got a warm welcome. The two are Texas natives and met as teenagers while attending Whitehouse High School.

Recalling the boos at the game, Kelce told his brother Jason Kelce, he didn't even notice he was on the jumbotron.

“Pat, kind of like, taps me and I was like ‘Oh, s---! I’m on the jumbotron,” he said. “And then I heard the boos and I was like, ‘Oh, s---! I’m getting booed. Nice. Thanks. Nice to see you guys, Dallas. Appreciate the warm welcome.’ And then they showed Pat and everybody was like, ‘Yeah!’”

Parents of two, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, looked thrilled to have a kid-free night out.

Kelce, on the other hand, was flying solo. His girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is abroad on the European leg of her "Eras Tour." Even without Swift by his side and getting booed, it looks like Kelce had a great time at the game, despite how some other members of the crowd may have felt about his presence.

Abby Jones with Bally Sports Southwest shared a video on X that appears to show Kelce receiving a less-than-warm reaction from the crowd, while his teammate Mahomes relishes in the fans' more enthusiastic cheers. Mahomes has been showing his support for the Mavericks on X.

According to CBC News, it was Kelce’s second night in a row at the American Airlines Center, and the crowd seemed similarly hostile to the tight end as he watched the hockey team Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Saturday, May 25.

Kelce viewed that game from a private suite along with professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau and former Major League Baseball pitcher Cole Hamels, according to the outlet.

“Kelce was booed by some of the crowd at American Airlines Center when shown on the big screen in the second period,” CBC News reported.

Despite the crowd reaction, Kelce seemed to really enjoy himself at the May 26 game.

There were other celebs at the NBA playoffs, too. The fan cam caught Queen Latifah and Shaquille O’Neal singing along to Kelly Clarkson’s hit “Since U Been Gone.”
