Cowboys shuffling scouting department, part ways with 18-year staple
Building their team in recent years, the bread and butter for the Dallas Cowboys certainly hasn’t been free agency. While big names find different teams, Dallas is always in the rumor mill, but never in the transaction wire. Instead, they always throws their chips at the draft. Thankfully, the scouts have delivered with a slew of home-run selections that have allowed Dallas to remain competitive despite only functioning in one of the three areas of roster creation.
One of the scouts integral in these triumphs was Drew Fabianich. Fabianich got his start as a quarterback and receiver coach at Mesa State College in 1985 and rose up the coaching ranks before switching gears with the Cowboys as their National Scout in 2004. Now the pair are parting ways, as reported by Neil Stratton of Inside the League.

During Fabianich’s tenure, 11 of Dallas’ first-round picks have turned into Pro Bowl players. This includes the selections of Dez Bryant, Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, Byron Jones and Ezekiel Elliott all within a seven-year window. Fabianich’s success goes further than the first round, notably Dak Prescott as one of the biggest Day 3 selections in Cowboys history.
Dallas now finds themselves without a National Scout and the replacement will take over a position held by Fabianich for 18 years.
