COVID-19 Tuesday update: Hospitalizations climb at Hendrick Health

Hendrick Health on Monday reported 119 COVID-19 inpatients, with 25 in ICU, compared to 110 COVID inpatients and 25 in ICU reported Friday.

The breakdown by facilities Monday was 99 inpatients at Abilene hospitals (20 in ICU), and 20 inpatients (5 in ICU) at the Brownwood hospital.

Hendrick reported that 82 were not fully vaccinated.

The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the 16-county Abilene trauma service area increased to 18.78% Monday, up from 18.77% Sunday and 18.07% Saturday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 database.

The Abilene trauma service area Monday had 163 COVID-19 inpatients, two more than reported Sunday. In the previous 24 hours, there were 18 COVID-19 admissions in the area, according to the state database.

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District on Tuesday reported COVID-19 data for Friday, including 404 new cases.

Of the new cases, 179 were confirmed via polymerase chain reaction tests.

Active cases as of Friday totaled 5,718 (1,897 PCR cases and 3,839 based on antigen tests), compared to 5,354 reported Thursday and 3,690 a week previous.

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

Abilene ISD: Reported Tuesday afternoon 10 new cases (five students, five staff) in the previous 24 hours, with active cases totaling 475 (314 students, 161 staff), compared to 492 Monday afternoon. Since Aug. 3, the district has reported 2,996 cases (2,174 students, 822 staff).

New cases by campus: two students at ATEMS/The Lift; two staff at Cooper High; one staff at Woodson Center for Excellence; two students at Craig Middle; one student, one staff at Alcorta Elementary; and one staff at One AISD.

Wylie ISD: Reported Tuesday 39 new cases (34 students, five staff), with 186 active cases, down from 314 active cases reported Monday.

New cases by campus: five students at Wylie High; four students at East Junior High; four students at West Junior High; three students at West Early Childhood; five students, one staff at West Intermediate; two students at East Intermediate; two students at East Elementary; and nine students, four staff at West Elementary.

Abilene Christian University: Reported Monday 13 new cases, with 25 active cases, 25 fewer than were reported Friday. Cumulative cases since Aug. 17 total 574.

McMurry University: Reported Saturday eight new cases (six students, two staff). The campus has 17 active cases. Cumulative cases since Aug. 1 is 188.
