COVID-19 outbreak cancels Wartburg ensemble concert set for Corn Palace

May 13—MITCHELL — A planned music concert at the Corn Palace has been canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak among the members of the Iowa college's ensemble, the venue said on Friday.

The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble's concert on Friday, May 20 at the Corn Palace has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

"Many members of the Wartburg College wind ensemble group have contracted Covid. Each day a few more students get sick," the Corn Palace said in an announcement. "The college has determined that their trip out to the Dakotas will not be possible."

The ensemble had halted its American Heartland Tour on May 11 "due to health concerns,"

according to a Facebook post

. Based in Waverly, Iowa, Wartburg's tour has taken the ensemble through Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska, and had planned additional stops in South Dakota and Minnesota.

The concert was to be open to the public at no cost, with freewill donations to be accepted.
