COVID-19: Taylor County adds 3 deaths, 61 new cases Monday

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District reported Monday three COVID-19-linked deaths, 61 new cases and 26 recoveries.

The total number of county deaths connected to the coronavirus is 548.

Of the 61 new cases, 26 were confirmed via polymerase chain reaction tests.

Active cases total 710 (203 PCR cases and 507 confirmed by antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 574.

Hendrick Health reported Monday 46 COVID-19 inpatients, with 15 in ICU. On the last report Friday, there were 57 COVID-19 inpatients, including 16 in ICU.

The breakdown Monday by facilities was 42 inpatients at the Abilene hospitals (12 in ICU), and four at the Brownwood hospital (three in ICU).

Of the 46 Hendrick COVID-19 inpatients, 36 were not fully vaccinated.

The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the 16-county Abilene trauma service area was 6.50% of total capacity Sunday, compared to 6.59% Saturday and 6.51% Friday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 database.

The Abilene trauma service area Monday had 59 COVID-19 inpatients, four fewer than reported Friday. The state also reported Monday that six admissions were made in the previous 24 hours.

Brown County adds 2 deaths, 30 new cases

BROWNWOOD – Brown County health officials reported Friday two COVID-19-linked deaths and 30 new cases for the week ending Dec. 3.

The deceased were a woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s.

Last week's number of 30 new cases is lower than the 35 the previous week and 38 two weeks before. The weekly peak since the last surge began in the summer is 378 reported on Sept. 10.

The county also reported Friday four COVID-19 hospitalizations and 41 active cases.

The percentage of county residents aged 5 and older who are fully vaccinated is 41.36%, compared to 40.50% two weeks ago.

The current totals for COVID-19 testing in Brown County as of Friday were:

  • Total positive: 7,202

  • Total negative: 10,085

  • Cases confirmed by PCR test: 3,393

  • Cases confirmed by antigen test: 3,809

  • Deaths: 193

  • Average age of deceased: 66

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

Abilene ISD: Reported Monday five new cases (four students, one staff member). New cases by campus: one student at Cooper High, two students at Bowie Elementary, one student at Martinez Elementary and one staff member at ATEMS.

Active cases total 33 (20 students, 13 staff members), four more than reported Friday. Since Aug. 3, the district has reported 1,301 cases (1,055 students, 246 staff members).

Wylie ISD: Reported Monday four new cases (three students, one staff member), with 10 active cases, the same number reported Friday.

Active cases by campus (nine students, one staff member): one student at Wylie High, one student at East Junior High, one student at West Intermediate, three students and one staff member at West Junior High and three students at West Elementary.

Abilene Christian University: Reported Monday two new cases, with seven active cases, one fewer than Friday. Of the active cases, 85.7% are unvaccinated. Due to possible exposure, two people are in quarantine. Cumulative cases since Aug. 17 total 196.
