COUNTY TOURNAMENT (VARSITY BOYS: No. 1 Good Hope 58, No. 5 Fairview 42

Jan. 26—Tucker Malin recorded a game-high 17 points, Good Hope's varsity boys dominated the second half with a dynamic effort and the Raiders bested Fairview 58-42 on Friday night to punch their ticket to the championship game of the Cullman County Basketball Tournament.

Top-seeded Good Hope and the No. 5 Aggies slugged it out in a competitive first half, with the Raiders taking a 23-22 lead into the locker room.

Coach Drew Adams' squad, though, turned up the intensity in the third quarter, outscoring the Purple and Gold by 11 points to build a 43-31 advantage.

Three-pointers by Malin (two) and Dakota Overton early in the final period gave Good Hope more than enough cushion down the stretch en route to the win.

The Raiders will play No. 2 West Point or No. 6 Holly Pond in the championship game on Saturday at 7 p.m. Good Hope is seeking its fourth county crown in the past six years.

Coach Speak

"We started out in a 1-3-1 (defense) because we thought that was how we were going to have to defend them. But early in the second quarter we switched to man and stayed in it, and that honestly won us the game. I'm just really proud of my guys and their grit. You've got to have that on the Friday and Saturday of the county tournament. But this one doesn't mean anything if we can't win tomorrow." — Good Hope's Drew Adams
