With the addition of Casey Hayward, it appears the Raiders have their two starting outside cornerbacks set in stone. But where does that leave 2020 first-round pick Damon Arnette, who had an up-and-down rookie season?

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the Raiders are toying with the idea of moving Arnette in the slot. Here are Tafur’s thoughts on Arnette and the potential move:

“The Raiders staff has gone back to watch Ohio State film to try to integrate Arnette smoothly after half of his rookie season was lost to injuries and COVID-19. Arnette did a lot better in zone coverages than man at Ohio State.

There’s also a chance Arnette could move to slot cornerback if free-agent signee Casey Hayward takes one of the starting outside spots. Hayward, who played for (Gus) Bradley with the Chargers, has also played the slot in the NFL.”

While it may not be Arnette’s most natural position, the Raiders want to find a way to get their best defensive backs on the field. And with the Raiders likely to move Amik Robertson to the outside, this opens up the slot position for more competition.

It remains to be seen where Arnette will play in 2021 but don’t be surprised to see Gus Bradley move him around the defensive backfield this season.
