Could Giants QB Daniel Jones win 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Year?

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is headed into what many view as a make-or-break season in 2022. The team has declined his fifth-year option and his future in East Rutherford will likely be decided by his on-field performance this season.

But what can be expected from Jones as he adjusts to yet another new head coach and yet another new offensive system?

The answer to that question varies greatly depending on who you ask. Some think Jones has already reached his ceiling and is little more than a backup quarterback. Others still believe he possesses rare talent and could succeed at a high level.

Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated seem to believe more of the latter and the former, which he indicated in a recent article compiled of 100 bold predictions. Among them was Jones winning the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award.

15. Giants QB Daniel Jones wins NFL Comeback Player of the Year

Derrick Henry is the odds-on favorite to win the award. What’s more likely: A QB guru (Daboll) unlocking Jones, who is still well liked by some NFL coaches, or Henry reversing an age-old trend?

That’s a tall order and certain fits the billing as a “bold prediction.” That would be a lottery-winning scenario for both the Giants and Jones.

Interestingly, Orr made another bold prediction that was somewhat Giants-related. He believes that Eli Manning and his brother, Peyton, will enter the NFL ownership fray.

92. The Mannings will make their ownership move

Eli Manning is nestled deep in the Giants’ business affairs. Peyton is exploring content and media. But as one of football’s wealthiest families, they’ve yet to nab a piece of tangible ownership. That will change in 2022.

Finally, Orr also predicted that running back Saquon Barkley will catch more than 60 receptions this season, but that doesn’t feel quite as bold. In fact, if Barkley stays healthy that almost feels like a given.
